What Is a Fortnite Gift Card? A Simple Guide to V-Bucks and Game Content
You can spend the Fortnite Gift Card to give your friends money for V-Bucks or other in-game purchases. Rather than buying something off the purchaser’s Epic Games account, they can use the card to add money to their account.
Gift cards can also serve as a more thoughtful gift. Buyers do not have to pick a specific skin or emote as players can choose their own things.
This article describes what is a Fortnite gift card, what can be purchased, who the gift card is for, and what users should know before buying or redeeming it.
Details About Fortnite Gift Card
A Fortnite Gift Card is a prepaid card that allows you to add money to a friend’s Epic Games account. Fortnite gift cards give a particular amount of money, which is added to an Epic Account Balance. This balance can be used to purchase V-Bucks, games, in-app purchases, and more.
Therefore, the gift card can be used to add money to an Epic account, which can be used for Fortnite and Epic Games purchases that the player desires.
This is why a Fortnite Gift Card online is an ideal present, as you give someone so much more than a Fortnite item.
What Are V-Bucks and How to Use Them?
In Fortnite, V-Bucks are used as a currency to purchase other items within the game, and players use V-Bucks to buy game items.
Many players’ first thought after receiving a Fortnite Gift Card is to redeem it for V-Bucks. Gift card balances can be redeemed for V-Bucks on supported devices via the Fortnite V-Bucks card page.
Keep in mind that V-Bucks are a digital currency and cannot be used for any purpose outside of Fortnite or supported Epic services.
What Can Be Purchased With a Fortnite Gift Card?
A Fortnite Gift Card allows users to add money to their Epic Games account. From there, they can purchase V-Bucks with their Epic Account Balance.
With V-Bucks, players can purchase:
- Skins and outfits
- Emotes
- Pickaxes
- Gliders
- Gun wraps
- Bundles
- Battle Pass content
- Other store items
Additionally, players can spend their Epic Account Balance on other games or digital items through Epic, depending on the product and region as stated on Epic’s redeem page.
Players should understand that the Fortnite gift card won’t let you buy everything in the Fortnite store directly. Instead, after the gift card is redeemed, you will have credit on your account to choose what you want to buy.
What Is the Difference Between a V-Bucks Card and a Fortnite Gift Card?
Some players still refer to them as V-Bucks cards.
Epic has announced that Fortnite gift cards replace V-Bucks cards, but localized V-Bucks cards may still be present in your area during the transition. V-Bucks cards that are still valid can be used on the Fortnite V-Bucks card page.
They are indeed related. However, each card serves a different purpose.
A V-Bucks card is mainly used to redeem V-Bucks.
A Fortnite gift card is used to add funds to the holder’s Epic Account Balance. Money from this balance can be used to purchase V-Bucks as well as other items in the Epic Games Store.
Please double-check the product name and the description of the redemption instructions as there may be differences. Some older cards may have a different redemption process than recently released cards.
How Do Fortnite Gift Cards Work?
While the process seems straightforward, there are multiple steps.
First, the purchaser buys a digital or physical Fortnite gift card.
Next, the recipient must be logged into the Epic Games account they wish to use.
Lastly, the card must be redeemed on the official Fortnite or Epic gift card redemption website.
Once completed, the specified amount shown on the card will be added to the account’s Epic Account Balance. From there, the player can purchase V-Bucks or other items on the list.
Epic has set some requirements in order to redeem a gift card, including having an active Fortnite account, the game downloaded on an eligible device, acceptance of the user agreement and other applicable terms. Some device-specific requirements, such as subscriptions or additional fees, may also apply.
In other words, while the card may be straightforward, an appropriate account and device are necessary.
Who Is a Fortnite Gift Card Best For?
A Fortnite Gift Card is ideal for players who actively play Fortnite and have a clear idea of what V-Bucks they want to purchase.
It is especially great for:
- Fortnite players who buy skins, emotes, and other cosmetics
- Users who buy things for the Battle Pass
- Parents wanting to put a set spending limit
- Gift buyers who don’t know what Fortnite item to pick
- Kids and teens who play Fortnite
- Anyone wanting a plain gaming gift card
- Fortnite players who purchase cosmetic items
Gift-buyers don’t have to know the exact item the player wants, so it’s great for them. Also, parents don’t have to worry as much as they would with a payment card. The player can only spend what they gift.
Who May Not Need a Fortnite Gift Card?
Not everyone will benefit from the card.
If the recipient does not play Fortnite, the card won’t be of use to them. If they mainly play other games, an online gift card will probably be a better option.
If the player wants a general prepaid card that can be used anywhere, then this also isn’t the right option. A Fortnite Gift Card can only be used for Fortnite, V-Bucks, Epic Account Balance, and eligible Epic purchases. It’s also not a cash card.
Younger kids might require assistance from their parents or guardians. Adults might need to redeem the card on a specific account, and parents should keep in mind that V-Bucks can be spent very quickly.
What Do You Need To Do Before Buying?
These steps should be done before buying a Fortnite Gift Card online.
First, it should be confirmed that the person you are buying the card for plays Fortnite.
Determine if they possess an Epic Games account.
Make sure that their gaming console or device is supported.
The card’s region should match the country of the account.
Read the description of the item carefully, as the card could be a code for another platform.
Buy only from sellers with good ratings.
Order confirmation should not be forgotten.
These steps are not complicated and can save you a lot of trouble.
Important Details About the Account’s Country and Region
The region is the most important detail to check before buying the card.
Epic’s support page states that each V-Bucks card corresponds to certain regions. If the Epic Games account’s country or region does not align with the V-Bucks card, it cannot be redeemed.
When Epic shows people this page for why their V-Bucks card does not work, one reason is “This card may not be redeemed by this account due to territory restrictions.” They tell people to look at the country or region of the V-Bucks card and compare it to the region on their Epic Games account.
This means that the code is possibly valid, but because of region restrictions, the code won’t work.
Don’t expect cards from other regions to work for Epic Games accounts that are set to New Zealand. If the player is in Europe, the card has to be from that specific European country or region.
Platform and Wallet Information
Not all of the platforms that Fortnite is available on integrate the same way when it comes to wallets.
Epic mentions that the Shared Wallet feature is not available on Nintendo Switch devices. Users that have purchased V-Bucks with account balance may be required to use the web Item Shop or a platform that supports shared wallets.
This applies to buyers since the player can be on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, PC, mobile, or cloud.
Before buying, ensure you know what platform they use and if their Epic account is linked. If the player’s Nintendo account is not linked to the Epic account, then they may not be able to see or use the V-Bucks that were purchased.
Problems With Fortnite Gift Cards
Most problems that arise with Fortnite gift cards can be narrowed down to a few simple issues.
Someone may have made an error when entering a code.
The card may have been used.
An Epic Games account might have a different region than the card.
The account might be set to the wrong country.
Someone may be attempting to redeem the card on the incorrect Epic Games account.
There may be a wallet limitation on that device.
The seller may have sent the wrong code.
The card may not have been activated, which means you own a gift card that doesn’t work.
If the code that was given to you is not working, check your account and region, the type of card, and your code entry before trying the code again, especially before you attempt the code multiple times.
How to Redeem Fortnite Gift Cards Safely
Because Fortnite Gift Card codes are like cash, your code should remain confidential and not be shared. If someone sees your code, they can redeem it before you even have the chance to redeem it first.
To prevent this, please do the following:
- Be cautious when buying gift cards from new sellers on social media.
- Redeem the code for the correct region.
- Make sure you are using the code for the correct person.
- Remember to keep the order confirmation.
- Gift cards should only be redeemed via the official Fortnite or Epic website.
- Do not share pictures of the code.
Gift cards have more risk of code sharing than other forms of cards, and the code can be shown on the order confirmation.
Are Fortnite Gift Cards a Good Gift?
Buying Fortnite gift cards is a good idea if the girl or boy you are buying for plays Fortnite. The player can use the V-Bucks to buy in-game stuff like skins, emotes, bundles, and even Battle Passes.
Gift cards also let parents limit how much a kid can spend in a game because you don’t have to have a card linked to the account. Also, there is no need to guess what the recipient wants.
Just don’t buy a gift card from a region that has the wrong code, because that can be a really annoying gift.
