EA Gift Card Code Not Working? Common Reasons and How to Fix It
Getting an EA Gift Card should be made easy. You purchase it, enter the code on your correct EA Account, and watch the amount get added to your EA Wallet. That’s it. You can spend it on purchases EA qualifies.
Sometimes, gift cards don’t work and can be frustrating, especially if gift cards were given as gifts, and the anticipation to use it now is gone. Potential causes could be typos, cards already redeemed, region issues, currency mismatches, or even restrictions on your EA Account.
With EA gift card code not working during redeeming, don’t throw the card away just yet. You can perform a few steps before reaching out to customer support.
What Is an EA Gift Card Code?
An EA Gift Card code is a code that can be entered to increase the funds on an EA Wallet. According to EA, this is done by visiting the Payment and Wallet section, selecting EA Wallet, clicking Add Funds, and providing the code.
The funds become part of the EA Wallet balance and can be used to make eligible purchases as an EA customer. Currency and account restrictions still apply to purchases. Each country has its own rules.
To put it simply, it functions like credit on your EA Wallet. It’s not cash and can’t be used everywhere. You must comply with all the rules of the associated EA Wallet to use it.
Why Is My EA Gift Card Code Not Working?
There are many reasons why you might not be able to use your EA Gift Card.
Some of the most common reasons include:
- Incorrectly entered code
- Code already used
- Card region and EA Account region do not match
- EA Wallet region and card currency do not match
- Code is for a different platform
- Code has not been activated or delivered by seller
- EA Account is restricted
- Temporary issues with EA payment or redemption system
Most of the time there are no complicated reasons. Issues with codes are typically related to region and currency not matching, as well as account settings.
1. Gift Card Code Was Entered Incorrectly
The first thing to do is to check the code.
Codes are sometimes case-sensitive, and without the correct case, it may not work. Gaps before or after the code may also cause the system to reject it.
This happens often with codes that are sent via email, and during email forwarding the code can sometimes have additional gaps added to it.
Check everything before taking any other action.
Look for:
- Extra spaces
- Characters that are missing
- Incorrect letters or numbers
- Characters that look similar
- Errors with copy and paste
- Incorrect formatting for code
If the code does not work by copying it, try typing it out manually. If typing it out manually does not work, go back to the email you received your order in and make sure you have the entire code when you copy it again.
A common EA gift cardcode not working issue is user error.
2. The Code Has Already Been Used
Gift card codes for EA can only be used one time. According to EA’s Wallet and Gift Card Terms, EA Gift Cards cannot be used more than one time, and also cannot be reloaded, resold, transferred for value, refunded, or redeemed for cash.
When the system gets a response that a code is already used, that could mean a number of things.
You might’ve used it and then just forgot.
The code could’ve been accessed by someone else.
Another EA Account could have the code entered.
The seller could have sent a code that is already used.
The code might have been used before it was sent to you.
If you believe the code was never used, first check your EA Wallet balance. Then check other EA Accounts you might have because some users have old accounts with different emails or accounts that are linked to different platforms.
If the code continues to show redeemed and your account does not have the balance, you need to reach out to the seller and show your order confirmation.
3. The EA Account Region Doesn’t Align
Region mismatch is yet another reason why redemption may fail.
EA Gift Cards and EA Wallet balances are subject to country and currency mappings. If the gift card was made for one country and the EA Account was made for another, the code may not redeem correctly.
This explains why purchasing the lowest-priced code online can be potentially problematic. It could be a legitimate code, just not one that would work with your account.
Before a purchase or redemption, make sure to verify:
- Country of the EA Account
- Country of the gift card
- Region of the store
- Region info of the seller
- Account eligibility associated with the code
As an example, consider an EA Account registered in New Zealand. A code from another region may not work. If the code holder is in Europe, it must comply with that country and payment configuration.
If an account region is inconsistent with the gift card region, the code may be valid but will fail to redeem.
4. There Is a Mismatch in Currency
Currency is another consideration.
According to EA’s terms, users must not redeem EA Gift Cards if more than one currency applies. EA also states that if customers relocate, they must first empty their EA Wallet balance before purchasing an EA Gift Card in their new country.
This indicates that the card’s currency must correspond with the EA Wallet or account country.
A currency mismatch can occur when:
- You purchase a USD code for an account that is non-US.
- You purchase an EUR code for an account that uses a different currency.
- The country of the account was changed previously.
- The seller is unclear about the currency.
- The code is labeled global but isn’t global.
If you encounter an EA gift card code not working error after entering a code that seems valid, then check the currency, as it may be the reason for the code’s rejection.
5. The Wrong Platform Code
Not every EA code works the same.
Some are for EA Wallet, some are for EA Play, some are game-specific, and some are for PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Epic, or other platforms.
An EA Wallet code will not redeem the same way as a PlayStation code. An Xbox code has to be used on Xbox. A Steam code has to be activated through Steam. The EA redeem page does direct users to different redemption locations depending on whether the code is for EA, a game, in-game content, gift cards, EA Play, or another platform.
Before assuming the code is broken, check what type of code it is.
Look at the product title, product description, and whether it says EA Wallet, EA Gift Card, EA Play, Origin, EA app, Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation. Make sure you are redeeming it in the right place.
If you purchased an incorrect platform code, the code could still be valid and not function on your EA Account.
6. The Seller Incorrectly Activated the Code
Occasionally, the problem can be with the seller.
At checkout, a physical card may not have been activated correctly. A digital seller may have provided an incorrect code, a previously used code, or a code for a different region.
For this reason, buying from reputable sellers is essential.
If the code is valid but still does not work, review your receipt or order confirmation to ensure the product corresponds with what you purchased.
Contact the seller if:
- The code is invalid
- The code has already been redeemed
- The region is incorrect
- The currency is incorrect
- The code was never sent
- The description of the product did not correspond with the code
When asking for help, do not post the entire code and do treat the code as cash.
7. There Are Restrictions on the EA Account
Redemption or spending can also be stopped due to an issue with the EA Account.
This can occur if the account has payment restrictions, country-related issues, age restrictions, security checks, or other limitations. If a user is attempting to redeem a code associated with another gaming platform, some accounts may have linked problems with the platform.
Because account restrictions are connected to the user’s EA Account information, they can be more difficult to resolve.
Here are some things to check first:
- Is the EA Account still active?
- Is the country on the account correct?
- Is the email linked to the account verified?
- Is the account linked to the right platform?
- Have you received any payment or security notifications?
- Is there a parental control or age restriction on the account?
If all the information about the code is correct and the account is still rejecting it, EA Support may need to investigate the account.
8. EA Wallet Balance Not Updating After Redemption
In some cases, the code may be accepted but the balance fails to update.
If the redemption page indicates success, wait a bit and refresh your EA Account. Then check the Payment and Wallet section.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Log out and back in again.
- Refresh the page.
- Check the EA Wallet area.
- Ensure you are using the correct EA Account.
- Confirm that you didn’t redeem the code on a different account.
- Wait a minute and try again.
If the balance is still not displayed, keep the order confirmation and reach out to support.
9. The Product You Want May Not Be Compatible With EA Wallet
Despite the EA Gift Card being redeemed, not every purchase will allow you to use your EA Wallet balance.
Certain limitations such as platform and product restrictions, subscriptions, or geographic location can apply to purchases. Even if there is money in your account, the specific item may require a different payment method.
Always check if using your EA Wallet is an option in the payment section at checkout before making a purchase.
Purchases made through console stores, platform-specific content, or subscriptions are very important. EA Wallet will most likely not apply if the product does not sell through EA payment flows.

Careful reading of the product title is advised.
Do not purchase anything from merchants in the marketplace that are suspicious.
Do not buy suspiciously cheap codes that appear to be a scam.
Send the code to the correct person.
Make sure to keep the order confirmation.
If you are sending a digital EA Gift Card to someone else, let them redeem it on their own EA Account. Do not redeem it for them unless you are absolutely sure it is the right account.
Final Thoughts
Seeing the EA gift card code not working message can be particularly annoying, but the good news is that it is usually something simple.
Start with the obvious ones. Check to make sure you entered the code correctly, make sure it wasn’t redeemed already, confirm the region and currency, and that the code is actually for the platform you’re trying to redeem it on. After all that, check the EA Account too. Check for restrictions, set countries, and payment limits as those all contribute to the issue.
An EA Gift Card is only as good as the account it is redeemed on and the seller it is purchased from. With the card, players can get EA Wallet credit for in-game purchases, but there has to be a match between the code, account, region, and currency for it to work.
The simplest option is also the safest option. Buy from a reputable seller, do not share the code, confirm the currency and region, and make sure to only redeem it on the right EA Account.
